Halloween costumes can be made from items that are found round the house or they can be purchased in a specialist store either locally or over the internet. More complex costumes or items that you think you might only ever wear once may be better rented out via a costume supply shop.

Halloween costumes are usually only limited by the person's imagination, because once a costume idea has been thought up; the supplies can more often than not be found to produce the inspiration.  With the prevalence of the internet, there is almost a limiteless stock of outfits and concepts that can be used, even make-up ideas for making certain effects in a step-by-step set of instructions and tutorials.

Homemade Halloween costumes can be created with any supplies and clothing that are at a person's disposal. There's a lot of different outfits that can be made using this method, or created by a couple of people working along with the materials on hand.

Clown costumes are one inspiration that can be created by using extra large clothing and a little make-up. Often the white make-up for the base must be bought, but the reds could be made by using lipstick and the other colors could be made through the eye shadow and liners that are in the bathroom.

Since the makeup for a clown is so distinctive, it is quite easy to create a clown costume in the home but you can get really detailed clown outfits over the internet or from a store too. It will save you time making it from scratch.

A scarecrow Halloween costume could be made by utilizing a flannel shirt and stuffing it with a pillow and then placing bits of hay or straw in the openings of the shirt so that it appears like the entire thing is full of hay or straw.  The shirt and pillow could be held in place using a rope belt and slack jeans or dungarees could be worn over it too. After all, an actual scarecrow is generally produced from bits and pieces and stuff you don't need hence how hard could it be in making a scarecrow outfit ?

Pirates are a classic Halloween costume. One and all loves to dress up like a Pirate at the very least once. It is not really that onerous to produce a costume with over sized, old clothes and a bandanna and you'd possibly need several props to really convince that you are a pirate. A sword, eye patch or captain hat might be all you need to add to appear to be a legendary pirate.

How about topical costumes ? Think of reports in the news and create a costume based on the individual or people involved in the story. A couple of years back it was octomom. Last year it was Barack Obama. What about wrapping a nine iron around your neck and wearing golf gear and pretend you're Tiger Woods. I'm sure there are some reports that will break before Halloween to inspire you to make that topical and witty outfit that could have the party chuckling.
