There are many ways one can conserve energy and save on energy costs through your home lighting. One popular way of conserving energy is by using energy saving light bulbs. You can do this by changing your light bulbs to compact fluorescent lights or LED lights which are known to last longer while consuming a lot less energy than your ordinary incandescent lights which use a lot of energy. Compact fluorescent lights bulbs use seventy five percent less energy of an ordinary incandescent bulb. You only need to do the math to realise the savings you are going to get with these lights. In the same way, you may change the light bulbs of decorative lighting fixtures such as crystal wall lights to bulbs that have lower wattage. LED lights may be more expensive than your ordinary light bulbs but what you save in its place is tremendous. LED lights can last years with everyday use and is truly a practical investment. The cost of replacing the lights that you have in your home now are merely a fraction of how much you will be spending on your monthly electric bill if you do not replace them. Plus, what you are looking at with this are long term savings.
One of the easiest yet most neglected ways one can conserve energy consumption with lighting is by simply turning lights off when they are not needed. Many people easily overlook this. A little responsibility in turning off lights can result in big energy savings. Now if you truly are a forgetful person, the best solution to this is by using motion activated lights. These are what you normally use outside the home but there are also interior lights that are motion activated. These lights have a motion sensor that activates it when a person is detected and turns off when that person leaves. In this way you will never have to fret over forgetting to turn off lights after you use them.
Also, another trendy way to save on lighting usage is by utilising natural lighting. Most homes nowadays are built to be environmental friendly and are built with skylights or big windows to maximize the use of natural lighting. Imagine only having to use lights during the evening or only when it is needed. This should save you a lot of money every time you see your monthly electric bill. Besides, natural lighting in your surroundings gives a warmer ambiance to a home.
During the holidays, it is a popular tradition to decorate ones home with Christmas lights. There are two ways you can deal with this. One is to skip this holiday tradition. However, if you are like most people who take pride in following traditions, the second option is to still honour the tradition but with the use of LED lights. Investing on LED holiday lights may be a bit more expensive than regular Christmas lights but these are a worthy investment in terms of energy efficiency and the number of years they can actually last.
