Have Fun And Avoid Debauchery In The Parades Before Mardi Gras
New Orleans is home to food, culture and of course the famous party of Mardi Gras, a gathering that flaunts its resilience in the face of an economic downturn and natural disasters.
A few people are particularly suspicious about this feral and maniac sunny festival, linking it to depravation, nudity and French quarter blunders. However, this southern celebration includes a couple of less morally decayed displays, but just as fun.
They're a couple of parades that march around fourteen days ahead of the official Mardi Gras festivities. These tend to be celebrated by the residents, which are notably less ferocious, and sort of prepare the environment for Mardi Gras. It's pretty much the same type of atmosphere; scores of residents flooding the streets, although the celebrations are slightly more digestible and civilized. The best thing concerning these parades is that New Orleans is actually on the cheap compared to other seasons.
These early processions even follow Mardi Gras' parade routes, using identical thunderous tractors pulling colorful floats festooned with dazzling costumed riders tossing trinkets, pearls and stuffed animals to the admiring masses. And even, you can watch bands from resident schools beating their drums and blowing their horns for Mardi Gras. The experience is incredible for the youngsters in the family sitting on their daddy's shoulders, ready to seize any goodies, which may be tossed into the crowd at any moment. You'll be surprised how little time it takes before the sidewalks are packed with spectators bearing pearl blooper collars and smiles from ear to ear.
Tailgating, cookouts and barbecues are another feature of the displays and festivities of Mardi Gras. Sidewalk greens and street parking areas are turned into outdoor kitchens and alfresco seating areas, featuring groups of people enjoying the marches and interacting with one another. Drinks and cocktails, bbq foods, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, cold salads, fried chicken and sweet treats are always part of the traditional fare.
Generally, shows continue into dusk, when you'll find many of the aluminous displays taking place. One of the most anticipated spectacles is the rumbling and booming of snare drums coupled with large flaming torches lighting the parade floats.
After the climax of the festival is reached, life goes winds back down in the Big Easy. Everyone launches back to their homes, loaded with Mardi Gras bead strings collected throughout the day. For most, this is what New Orleans is all about, and it means that it is the period to prepare for next year's fun and festivities. At the same time as you're in the region of New Orleans, bear in mind that there are countless options for lodging accommodations, including hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts or even Bluegreen resort options accessible from the Bluegreen corporation.
